Over the winter our volunteers worked hard on digitizing an earlier version of the Beaver Island Historical Society Cookbook and added new recipes from the Families and Friends of Beaver Island.  The new cookbook is approximately 200 pages and includes fun family photos from our Island Community.

In December 1957 the newly formed Historical Society published in the Beaver Beacon a call to a helped to raise funds to restore the Mormon Print Shop and open a museum.  (Quoted below)

HISTORICAL SOCIETY LATEST… release from Mr. & Mrs. Russell Hoffman, founders of the Society: “Recipes wanted from all the good cooks on Beaver Island!  In order to raise money for the B. I. Historical Society, to help restore the Mormon Printing House, we intend to compile a cookbook from the recipes used by you wonderful cooks and some real old family recipes handed down from your grand and great grandmothers.

Over the decades, this BIHS cookbook is still a treasured artifact in the kitchens of 'all good cooks.' As the society made plans in 2019 to begin construction plans to raze the old kitchen addition and construct a new wing, fresh thought was given to a reprint of the original cookbook with the same mission “to raise money for the B.I. Historical Society to help restore the Mormon Print Shop.”

This new edition is a multi-generational cookbook with newly added recipes from members of the original families and the longtime summer residents of Beaver Island.  To order your advance copy please click here.
